Infographics based on the IPCC's 5th Assessment Report part 2 illustrate the impacts of and adaptation to climate change

Infographics

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published the report of the Working Group II contribution to the Fifth Assessment Report in March 2014. It focuses on the impacts of, adaptation and vulnerability to climate change. The Finnish Environment Institute SYKE and the Ministry of the Environment have produced infographics on the key messages of the report. They can be freely used by the public and the media.

Note: When using the infographics, please cite the Finnish Environment Institute, the Finnish Ministry of the Environment, and Climateguide.fi as references.

Key terms

Figure 1. Key terms: impacts, risk, adaptation, and mitigation.

Observed impacts of climate change

Figure 2. Ocean warming, acidification and lack of oxygen are critical for life in oceans.

Figure 3. Impacts related to climate change in Europe are diverse.

Figure 4. Projected global demand to feed the world in 2050 is greater than the highest estimates of projected crop yields.

Figure 5. Movement of species, i.e. distances that species must displace themselves in order to stay within current preferred climate conditions (km per decade).

Risks

Figure 6. Key risks related to climate change.

Figure 7. Key risks related to climate change in Europe.

Figure 8. Both vulnerability and exposure to the impacts of climate change contribute for climate-related risks.

Figure 9. Risks increase if the emissions of greenhouse gases continue to grow at current rate, because it means rise in the global mean temperature and ocean acidification.

Adaptation

Figure 10. Governments at various scales are starting to develop adaptation plans and policies, and adaptation experience is accumulating accross regions.
